Iris

Am still being afflicted by early morning rises........had hoped to have come to my senses by now.....ho-hum!
But benefit was an early blink of sun that lit up this iris in my garden.

Which, in a sort of roundabout way, led me to ponder on the de-humanising of just about everything in our lives.

Years ago, when we lived in The Far North with two young children; scraping a living from wherever it could be found ,I worked for a time at a hill farm.
Beautiful place ,house was part of job ,but not a lot of largess.

My old car was expiring--so needed another. In those days the only source of credit was your bank manager, to whom you crawled on your belly, hoping he had had a good breakfast! But, at least you knew his name ,and could i]actually go and see him! Without first having a full body scan before the Bank would deign to open its door to you to boot!

Fortunately, we were able to visit Alan (yep---Alan) to see about 1250 crisp new bank notes!
So we sat down, scratched our heads over the dire straights of our finances, and went through the proceedures. Till we arrived at assets........ ''You must have something " he asked. So thought for a moment and said 'A cow and a calf and six sheep' ! ......................Was in my 30's and fondly imagined I would become Sutherlands most celebrated hill farmer in time!
And thats the roundabout link.........the cow's name was Iris !!!!

Anyway , Alan cheerfully said "Great ,that'll do !" So we got our loan with assets of a cow and a calf and six sheep!

Next time you visit the cathedral that is your bank, and if you can find some one other than an automaton; give that a try for your loan!!
