Last of the summer roses

I used to take a vicarious pleasure in paying for stuff with my watch enjoying the looks of disbelief on people’s faces,
 
Now we all take this method of payment for granted.
 
But today I fell into conversation in one shop with a young man who told me that the really cool thing these days is to pay with an implant in your wrist.
 
Now it was my turn to be amazed. Are we all about to be chipped like our pets? Is this another step towards becoming hybrid humans? 
 
But implantable devices are already used for medical purposes. Think of pacemakers and implants to monitor diabetic sugar levels.
