(Almost) November Ceremonies
The last Saturday in October sees The First Poppy Laying Ceremony heralding the start of the Poppy Collecting Fortnight and the run up to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday. This year Mrs S and I are hoping to march past at the Cenotaph in London, we await confirmation of our tickets. It’s unlikely Mrs S will take part in the march past as the e-mail account she used to apply for tickets was hacked and she has been locked out of it.
Numbers for today’s ceremony were down on previous years but that’s ok. I laid thirteen Poppy Crosses, seven family and six local associations. Being away this November 11th means it will be only the second Falmouth Remembrance Sunday that I will have missed in over twenty-five years.
A Wetherspoons “Big Breakfast” beforehand and two pints back at ‘Spoons’ afterwards before heading home to Paddy sit whilst Sam headed off.
Rugby World Cup Final - not sure how I feel having sat through it. Siya Kolosi, the Boks captain is articulate and speaks of how this will do the South African nation good. The All Blacks, reduced to fourteen men at twenty-nine minutes with the loss of their captain, will rue missed chances and inconsistent refereeing decisions throughout the tournament.
