Plaza Redonda
This is one of the most famous squares in Valencia; Plaza Redonda or Round Square. An oxymoron!
It was a strange mix of very hot but very windy today. In the morning we’d booked a tour of the city’s architecture, in particular the Modernista style (Spanish version of Art Nouveau). This square was part of the tour. It was really interesting and our guide was brilliant, but by the end of it we felt quite buffeted by the strong wind and flying debris! After lunch and short siesta, we visited two different exhibitions. The first was a photography exhibition of Mont Blanc (Bernard Tartinville) and the second was all about the use of air-raid shelters in Valencia during the Spanish Civil War (they were dotted all over the city). We visited one of the actual refuges (used by 700 people) as part of the exhibition. Before heading back to the flat, we had a wander around the Carmen area visiting the quirky shops and enjoying the street art.
