Farewell

While we have not been battered by Storm Ciarán to any significant extent here it has nevertheless been a grey and at times wet day again.

The overall mood was potentially not going to improve by attending the service for a long standing elderly member of the congregation. The funeral had been held before the memorial service and, as it turned out, it was a lovely event with heartfelt tributes to Douglas.

While you think you know someone it is often at funerals that you find out much more of their background and early life. I remember Douglas as a warm and engaging person with a passion for amateur dramatics. But I came away with a much more rounded picture of him. We shouldn’t have to wait until a funeral to get that understanding.

He would no doubt have enjoyed the fact that we, unintentionally, had home-made curry for dinner.
