HMS Starwort

As it was a better/drier day today we walked down to The Old Prison to look in at the Northleach History Exhibition which is running for a few days. It was very interesting, and very busy.

I was intrigued by the Story of HMS Starwort, a corvette which was adopted and sponsored by the town of Northleach during World War II. Apparently it escorted over 50 convoys, and sank a U-boat, U-660. After the war it was converted to a whaler in the Antarctic. I did a quick search for more info and discovered there is a book about her, HMS STARWORT: Cotswold Sub Killer Southern Whaler.

I had a bit of trouble getting the photo of the bell, partly because it was so busy, partly because I had accidentally switched the camera to manual focusing. It took me  a few goes before I worked out what was going on.

The prison cafe was heaving but we managed to get some drinks and cake. The rain came back on the walk home though, I got pretty wet.

In the afternoon I helped out a camera club friend with some Lightroom challenges. I think I helped, but now feel exhausted from all the mental effort!
