Something Different And Silly

I walked into Bramham Park today to see if the beech trees were putting on a good display…however, I was rudely interrupted by rally cars running through the park!!

There were lots of ‘classic’ cars - the usual Cortinas, Escorts, Fiestas, Saabs, BMWs, Porsches, Minis…and somewhat bizarrely an Austin Allegro! See extras 1 and 2 for a few of them in motion…

I caught up with them at a rest stop in Bowcliffe Hall - extra 3 - where I also found this shot for my main blip..I though it was somewhat ‘appropriate’ for the event…this is a two shot focus stack - the Allegro is at the back..last to arrive! A silly sign for SillySaturday - thanks to 60plus for hosting.

The event is the RAC ‘Rally of the Tests 2023’ - Scunthorpe to Darlington over 4 days!

I got talking to one of the marshalls who told me that this stage was not a ‘race’…but the vehicles were being timed to see how close to 18 mph they could get over the course…there were timing points (hidden to the drivers) and the competitors were ‘penalised’ according to how far over or under the speed they managed!! So they cars were not going fast - but there was a lot of noise and blue smoke - and the smell of burnt oil in the air!
