Where are they?
After seeing the Quentin Blake drawings in Hastings a couple of weeks ago I, of course, got out this jigsaw. It is not an easy puzzle by any means, there are no blocks of colour for a start. However, the main complexity is imbedded in the drawings themselves. Blake’s incredible skill in bringing a character to life with just a few marks on the page makes it very difficult to find particular pieces.
Here, for example, is Professor Dupont with some of his cockatoos from the book Cockatoos. This is a book that the youngest grandaughter and I have shared many, many times over the years, from the time when she was delighted that she could see where the cockatoos were hiding, even when he said they were not there. From the time when she started counting the cockatoos on each page. Then there were moments when she noticed something - ‘they are down when he looks up, they are up when he looks down’. We still get it out even now and wonder over the drawings.
So Professor Dupont’s jacket was straightforward to put together. Very tricky finding the bits for his head and fitting them in and then suddenly . . . there he is looking very perplexed.
My Cockatoos Blip.
