At sea - Cruise Expedition Day 15 - Elephant Island, Antarctic Peninsula, Bransfield Strait
am: Arrived at Elephant Island in early hours. Wake-up call at 6:15. Breakfast 6:30 - 7:30. Sea surface fairly calm but a long swell was rocking the ship. Three staff took a Zodiac out for a recce. Later, the report back was that transfer to and from the boats would be difficult and that landing would not be possible, however, they were going to launch 8 Zodiacs for those passengers who wished to take a closer look from nearer to the shore lasting 30 to 40 minutes. I opted out of this activity as previous experience in St Andrews Bay (South Georgia) convinced me that good photography is nigh impossible in a bobbing and rolling Zodiac parallel to the shore and broadside to the swell. I took scenic views from the deck.
pm: Musical entertainment in the lounge from Blaise.
Wildlife:
petrel, cape petrel, pintado petrel, cape pigeon, blue-eyed cormorant, dominican gull,
