The Last of the Colors at Dry Hollow
I recently signed my husband up for the grab-and-go book lockers at Way Fruit Farm. It's a program between our township and the local libraries in which (since we no longer HAVE a Bookmobile!) residents may request library materials; the books are delivered to lockers at Way Fruit Farm on a Monday. By Tuesday morning, they send you the locker number and combination so you may access your books.
We received the emails and decided to go to Way Fruit Farm to pick up the books on Tuesday. They have a rather robust selection of old-fashioned candy there, which I have become enamored of. Oddly enough, we walked out with more $$ worth of candy than veggies. And no books! Oopsie.
Our local EMS service was sponsoring a fund-raiser on election day at voting locations, in which you could buy a sandwich (ham, beef, turkey) with a small bag of Middleswarth chips for $4.50. We thought it was a decent deal and adore Middleswarth's bar-b-q chips, so that was a no-brainer. The bag of chips was way tiny, though; bring on the Weekender bag, if you REALLY want enough chips!
And then we headed to the former Dry Hollow property where I walked and my husband jogged. The leaves are mostly down now, but the late-season reds are hanging on. Above is a shot of the pretty colors on the trees as we walked out of Dry Hollow a few hours later.
We made our way back to Way Fruit Farm, and the Moose was with us, so he was in charge of securing the books. Moose and I hopped out of the car, found our locker (locker #1!!!), and put in the combination. BEAUTY! MAGIC! VOILA! BOOKS!!!!
But apparently, such magic is not free. I learned from a local friend who lives in Halfmoon Township, where I am (and isn't that just a wonderful name? it was called that based on the crude halfmoon shapes carved on the trees along an ancient Native American path), that the book lockers may be going away. Why? The cheap f*cking b*stards who run this joint decided that they are not funding library services anymore.
So as of late last December, with MANY STRONG OBJECTIONS AND PROTESTS from the township folks, the People In Charge of That Sort of Thing voted to get rid of library funding. So, to sum up, I don't know where that leaves us for the future (VOTE VOTE VOTE, folks!), but on this day, there were BOOKS.
My soundtrack song has to be about the color red, so here is the firecracker Tanya Tucker, with Blood Red and Going Down.
