Great Northern Diver #68

A busy morning reviewing bank statements for my late uncle's estate, and then in the afternoon we went over to the Wirral in search of the Great Northern Diver that has been around for the past week. I'd never seen one before.
West Kirby Marine Lake is not that big, so we had no problem in finding it and lucky for us, it was on our side of the lake so really quite close.
The sun was in completely the wrong place, until the diver decided to make it's way towards the right and we spent a good few minutes chasing it along the promenade trying to predict how far it would get and where it would surface. This was my favourite shot
We also saw a rather handsome shag and a common scoter, so it was a good day.
As the sun was making things quite difficult and we were short of time, we chose to head home via Denhall Quay and see if there were any owls around. We had an hour of light left so spent it sitting on the picnic tables with a diet coke waiting to see if any owls would show. We saw quite a few distant Marsh Harriers and were about to call it a day when my first short-eared owl of the year flew past in the distance. I got a poor record shot, but it didn't come out again. Great to see it though. We will be back.
