Travelling On Armistice Day

Coffee and a bacon sandwich and Mrs S and I were ready to go when friend Lucy arrive at 07:00 to take us to Truro station.

My Blip is not the place to describe how I felt about the cancellation of the rail replacement buses suffice to say we eventually left Plymouth for Paddington at 11:14, only an hour late.

First stop on arrival at Paddington was the “Poppies To Paddington” display on Platform 1. It set the tone for what was to be a memorable forty-eight hours.

The hotel was a short walk from the station in the newly constructed ‘Paddington Basin’. You get an idea of how the area has improved when you see the rent rates of some of the newly constructed apartments, £1,100 per week!!

Checked in and unpacked we headed off to Fortnum & Masons to stock up on ‘essentials’ and enjoy the Christmas decorations, (Too Soon), then on to Whitehall.
We found out where our access point at Horseguards for tomorrow was, then strolled past the Cenotaph before it was closed off by the police. Pro-Palestinian demonstrations and right wing counter demonstrations nearby caused that.

Arriving at Westminster Abbey we found that the Fields Of Remembrance had just closed so we added a visit tomorrow to our list.
We walked back to Leicester Square where we caught the tube to Paddington. A much needed dinner, Greek cuisine, preceded a couple of beers and a couple of tots of rum before going up to the room for some much needed sleep.

Big Day Tomorrow
