Candlesnuff Fungus

I spotted this little fungus growing on and old tree branch in the woods. It is also known as Stag’s Horn, as the fruiting bodies can split to resemble antlers.

I only had my little LX5 camera with me - and, fortunately, my portable LED panel. I was travelling light as it was forecast to rain…and I just wanted stuff in my pockets and not my bag!!

This is just a couple of the fruiting bodies - but there is a lot of it growing. Sadly my wider shots were all blurry due to camera shake…it was quite dark even with the LED.

I was able to rest the the camera against the wood to steady it for this shot. I think this is one to revisit with a proper camera, tripod and a macro lens!!
