A magical day
Too many impressions for just one photo today.
All day we have been looking out for the impacts of tourism in Iceland (positive and negative).
After walking to and behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, we had a quick stop to see Eyjafjallajökull, where in 2010 an eruption caused major upset for the world aviation industry. We also walked up to the Sólheimajökull glacier where we really saw how far the glacier has retreated since 1990.
Lunch was in the town of Vik and then it was off to the black beaches, on the first we saw evidence of primary succession and on the second admired the basalt columns and enormous waves hitting the beach. The hop-on hop-off day ended with a last stop at another amazing waterfall, Skógarfoss.
And to top it off we were treated to seeing the Northern lights. Just amazing!
