A time for everything

Flying bird

Monday
This afternoon was Book Club at Carol’s. Carol is a widow, older than me, and has recently moved to a new (for her) home, in the same neighbourhood, but it happens to be next door to her daughter! This was the first time Book club members had seen it. It’s a lovely ranch, well taken care of and with a lovely, quite large fenced in garden. It has lots of windows, so is nice and light, and she is very good at decorating, so she has made it her own in quite a short space of time. We were a small group today - just five of us, but we had a good time discussing Remarkably Bright Creatures, a debut novel by Shelby van Pelt, and currently a best seller.
“After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium”
Through this relationship, Tova will come to learn more about her son, and is able to move on and form new relationships. Some people may have trouble with it as being “too far fetched”, but we all really enjoyed it and found it a good, feel good read.
My blip was taken when I got home and I was sitting in the family room drinking my tea, and my eye happened upon the late afternoon sun falling on the flying duck sitting above our fireplace - it was made by our daughter Jen back in her Junior High days, in woodwork class - that’s going back a few decades!
