Lumsdale Falls
Best day's weather of the week. I wasn't working so after a swim first thing I took myself off to Matlock and the enchanting Lumsdale falls area. I've visited a couple of times previously at this time of year, because of the lovely colours you get in this steep sided area, which was once a thriving industrial area for cotton spinning and bleaching. The spinning was achieved by harnessing the power of the water as it tumbled through the gritstone gorge in the 18th and 19th century.
Despite the lovely weather it wasn't ideal for shooting moving water, with the highlights caused by sunlight as it dappled the scene. In fact, this is an HDR image combining 5 separate images to draw out the detail in the scene. As you can see from the extra, the autumn colours were quite breathtaking.
