Mending Fences (2)
I picked up a replacement fence panel (see blip of 14th November for the reason why) last Thursday, but had to wait until today to slot it into place due to it being too windy or rainy over the weekend - no fun trying to hold a 6’ x 4’ panel above your head when there’s a breeze blowing!
The old panel pretty much disintegrated as I removed it, so all Mrs C and I had to do this morning was slot the new one into place. A procedure made slightly more difficult by the overhanging tree and the fact that I’d left the new panel outside all weekend, meaning the wood got wet and expanded. Finding out that the panel is very slightly wider than the gap between the posts is not what you want when you’re holding the panel above your head and the tree is stopping it dropping in at the optimum angle. Eventually, brute force, ignorance and a big hammer did the trick and the panel is now securely in place. Thank goodness Mrs C and I are regular attendees at the gym, because I don’t think we would have been strong enough otherwise.
I was going to take a closer picture, but I saw that there were a few Blue Tits in the tree and I was hoping one of them might perch on the new fence to create a better image. But after taking this photo and waiting a few minutes, they all flew off, so that was the end of that plan!
Just got to do it all again in the Spring now, when we replace the other panels. Unless there another storm in the meantime…
