DERWENTWATER

The sun was shining this morning so I thought I'd take Hubby up to the Lingholm Estate on Derwentwater.  Well that was the plan.

We left just after 9.00 to try and get there fairly early.  We went up the A590 to Newby Bridge, then took the A592 along the shores of Windermere (loads of roadworks and traffic lights, but otherwise OK).  Up through the Lakes, going pat Rydal Water, Grasmere and Thirlmere to Keswick - no problem. I went to take the A66 at the roundabout just outside Keswick BUT IT WAS CLOSED OFF.  Had to make a split second decision whilst navigating around that roundabout (luckily fairly quiet) and decided just to go to the Lakeside cafe at Derwentwater in Keswick instead.

Blinkin' 'eck the parking has gone up, it's now £5.90 for just 3 hours, plus if you want to use the toilets you have to pay 50p!!!!  It really is a huge rip off.  We went to the Lakeside Cafe so didn't have to pay for the facilities and had a very nice coffee, hubby also had a Bacon Brioche and I just had a piece of sourdough toast.

Then we started to walk to the Centenary Stones.  Boy was it busy, for a Tuesday in November.  It wasn't horrendously busy but more than I thought would have been there.  Still never mind.

We got to where these stones are, but they could barely be seen the water was so high, you could just about make out the tops of them.  So we explored that part of the bay and enjoyed the walk.

We then got back to the car park about 1.00pm and decided we would call in at The Traveller's Rest on the A591 by Grasmere.  Again that was the plan!  We like it there.  It was open but only for drinks as apparently they had problems in the kitchen and the Gas Men were there sorting it out but they weren't open for food today!!!!

So instead we went a bit further down the road and went into The Daffodil Hotel, right on the shores of Grasmere instead.  It's a modern hotel but the food is good.  We were welcomed by a very nice waitress and shown to a table.  We decided to go for a pizza, which is rare for me but I just fancied one.  It was delicious, however it was HUGE, somewhat too big for me, but Hubby managed his OK.

After that I needed a walk around so we went around their grounds to walk off the pizza just a little.  Then just came home.

Loads of road works around but otherwise the roads were fairly quiet.

A pleasant day, but I do still constantly worry about Hubby and just hope nothing happens to the aneurysm whilst we are out!!  It just colours everything, but trying to be positive and do nice things on a nice day.
