The Duck Street Acer

When P returned from his early morning walk, he told me the acer in Duck Street was at its best; so before lunch, I fitted in a quick walk into the village to try to photograph it. The light was low and dull, it was drizzling, and the acer is in the tiny front garden of a cottage outside which there is always a street full of parked cars. The best view was from the churchyard, which is above the street with a high retaining wall; the glorious colour shone out of the greyness of the day (without any boosting of the saturation). The leaves are small and delicate, and it was too windy for close ups to be feasible in low light, but I hope there will be a better day before they all fall.

After lunch J and I joined her aunt, uncle and cousin online to play Outsmarted, a quiz board game which is played via an app and works well remotely (so long as one doesn't take it, or the scores, too seriously). We chatted on Zoom at the same time, catching up with a new job, new retirement and family news, which was lovely - we don't do it often enough.
