Akkedis
What a lovely surprise! Today I received this beautiful gift, a wall hanging, all the way from down under, Perth in Ozzieland.
A beautiful green lizard, called akkedis, gecko, called geitjie in Afrikaans.
It will surely grace my red brown brick wall and with every mealtime, at least, I will fondly remember where it came from. Thanks Lin! X
Anybody who has seen two lizards fight, will agree that it is a highly volatile and explosive engagement, to put it mildly. The Afrikaans word geitjie (for gecko) refers to a very hot tempered, vicious woman! Not to be engaged if you can help it! Very apt description of such a person.
Perhaps this gift is trying to tell me something ...mmmm?
Better still: perhaps if I kiss it, it might turn into a prince!
Apart from my handsome green lizard, I also received a tube of beautiful Australian Waratah hand and nail cream. Since I worked like a savage in the garden today, I will thoughtfully apply some of this nourishing ointment to my ill treated hands!
I wonder what rugby and hand cream have in common...?
