A Whale of a Dad
I was talking to my friend Karen the other day about Father's Day and she mentioned she was getting a Fudgie the Whale cake for her family. It's an ice cream cake sold by Carvel stores. It was made in the 1970's by Carvel and has been promoted around Father's Day ever since using the slogan, "For a whale of a dad." Corny I know.
Still, I thought it was a fun idea and such a blast from the past. So today we had a Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake to celebrate Father's Day. The cake looks to be in the shape of a whale and was originally meant to be one but if you rotate it 90 degrees counter-clockwise the whale's body could now be a face. The whale's tail can then be whatever character represented the holiday; Easter Bunny's ears, a leprechaun's hat etc. It was a big hit!
I had my parents over for dinner and my son grilled huge steaks to go along with all the side dishes I made. Everything went very nicely. There is a photo of me and my dad here. I'm officially tired so I leave you today with this; Happy Father's day to all the fathers out there including fathers in heaven, potential fathers and fathers working to become better fathers.
