640 day of war
Hello, friends!
Winter has already arrived to us.
The cold weather is adding difficulties, but we will cope with it. To preserve some warmth at home, we've covered all windows and doors in several layers to prevent cold air from entering the apartment. We try to stay warm with hot tea and physical exercises. Heating is quite expensive now, so we can only afford to turn it on when it's very cold, usually for an hour in the evening to warm up the apartment before bedtime. At other times, a few sweaters and blankets are helping us for now.
We've heard that the enemy has accumulated many missiles and drones, so there's little confidence that winter will pass peacefully. But no matter what, we are holding on and finding moments of joy in simple things, trying to live a normal life. The less we read news we have, the better, as rarely do they report anything positive, and there are already enough reasons to be sad.
It's challenging when a war is happening with a country that shares the same information space. We see everything they write, and they see everything we write. This is used for information-psychological operations, and every piece of news aims to evoke emotions. I notice that after watching the news in messengers, I continue to think about them , and it hinders maintaining calmness. Of course, it's essential to know what's happening in the country, but staring at deaths and destruction is definitely not beneficial for mental health, no matter which side the losses are on.
There's a growing sense of derealization, and it's still hard to believe that people are capable of waging wars, killing hundreds of thousands of people just to stay in power.
Tonight was quite uneasy for us because an air raid alarm started around midnight and lasted until 8 in the morning. A record number of drones were released over us, 75 in total, of which 71 were shot down, quite an impressive result.
Today marks the anniversary of the Holodomor, a mass artificial famine that led to the death of 7 million people in villages within the Ukrainian SSR. Interestingly, Russia does not recognize the Holodomor and demonstratively destroys memorials to this event in the occupied territories. Yet, on the day of remembrance, they launched such a massive drone attack. I increasingly understand that time moves in a spiral, and everything that happened before is returning now. Earlier, our people's grain was forcibly taken. Now bombs are being dropped on our grain storage to make everyone go hungry. I still don't understand what drives the people who do all this.
At the beginning of the war, when it became clear that we had survived the first most challenging months and that this would last for some time, there were thoughts that this would be a traumatic event for everyone in the country. Now there's an understanding that the traumatic event already has consequences in the form of suppressed mood, heavy dreams, anxiety, and now there's only an attempt to cope with it. I believe that everything will work out, and that with time, everything will be okay, and this episode of life will remain just a memory.
And for now, we are doing everything to survive this stage of life and endure all the difficulties. I believe that everything will be fine
