Project day

A few things to tick off the list on some our ongoing projects, some repeats and some new things not previously considered. It’s been a highly successful day.

Two things first, Hannah’s ongoing Thames Path walk in bits and finishing a day out from seven years ago. That day we had intended to go from Greenwich to the Thames Barrier reef but got all caught up in Greenwich and the fun of the day. So today we set off along the Thames path, pausing at the cutty sark, I went on a school trip there once, and for breakfast. Then we happened upon the cable car, goodness it’s great. If I lived round here I would be geographically organising my home and work so I would need to get the cable car to move between the two. Much better than the London eye, no queues and a car all to ourselves. Time then for a swift half to congratulate ourselves on our marvellous transport discovery then got a cab the rest of the way to the Thames Barrier reef which had actually taken on a whole mythical edge- did it actually exist? We didn’t see it from the cable car, the taxi man had no idea where we wanted him to take us.

But then, there is was in all its glory! The cable car adventure has taken us to the wrong side of the river for the information centre so we made some stuff up about it (like my dad would have done) and took lots of photos. A fine end to our 2016 day out and actually the end of the Thames path but lots of bits in the middle remain un walked so that project is ongoing.

Flushed with success we walked back along to get a boat back. We prefer the tourist boats with all the commentary and information but only an Uber boat was available. No matter, it was still superb and let us buy a glass of wine each. Got of at Tower Bridge, wandered round the outside of the tower a bit and went to St Katherine’s dock to a tapas restaurant we went to with Katie and Alison before- best meal I have had for ages, we were delighted.

Then it was all to quickly time to go home. Obvs my train ticket didn’t open the barriers at Victoria so I forced my way through them to get on the train just about the leave. Sat near a group of Americans whose company’s uk office is in Worthing so they travel and stay there a lot, giving them extensive familiarity of Worthings bars and restaurants, it was funny talking to them. Then another American lady popped up to asked where they came from in the us- she was staying in Worthing too. It was all quite surreal.

Summary though- excellent two days that have felt like a bit of a reset. Plus as many transport methods as possible, 6 in total! Also, absolutely freezing throughout - I missed hat and gloves throughout. Some extras if you fancy
