This is as far as you can get up the Glen and I wouldn’t even try that in your family car.
The township associated with the Glen Shale Mine was situated in this paddock from about 1880 to 1905 but there is little evidence left although this shed is actually on the site of the old pub with Narrow Neck in the background.
The mine itself was at the level where the vertical section of cliff meets the trees. The mine operation, particularly the associated trolley railway and tunnel through Narrow Neck are a particular interest of mine but I’ll save that for another day.
