FLOWER AND FLY

It's Flower Friday and, as I have mentioned before, in my neighborhood flowers of any kind are hard to come by in December...unless you're talking about snow flowers.  Hence the backblip from warmer times.

This is the beautiful lilac colored top of a Canada Thistle (Cirsium arvense); it is an alien plant in the U.S. being native to Europe where it is known as Creeping Thistle.

Dunno how it got here....perhaps the clinging thistle managed to cling to the wool coat of a visitor to Canada...hence the name.  A common Green Bottle Fly (Luciliata sericata) is assisting in pollination efforts.
