Driving
Today was all about driving. It was supposed to be abut flying, but ... after driving across the hill from Wanaka to Queenstown to catch our flight, it was unfortunately cancelled 20 mins due to departure. Weather. Bugger!
So we raced downstairs to the rental cars, none available to drive back, unless we paid the $250 return fee. Options. Wait for the bus (painful!), try the next flight (unlikely), or drive ...
At that time we picked up another orphaned passenger, so drive it was. Only small issue, had to be in Christchurch by 2.55pm for an international flight, and it was 10am ... So we got the car rented and departed, on the road at 10.15, precisely 4.40 to get the Christchurch.
Needless to say I didn't have much time for photos, so my co-driver took them. Sort of worked ...
And did we make it? Well, after lots of roadwork's etc, but no other stops (and there wasn't much slowing down on corners ;-) we got there at 3pm. 5 minutes late and technically the flight was closed, but they let him on! He was pretty chuffed and we've got a few free drinks at his restaurant in Arrowtown when were next down I think.
Cheers to that!
So, great to be home, and now waiting for the big snow which will hopefully start arriving tomorrow night. Fingers crossed!
