The World Is A Sadder Place Today
This is my friend Sandy (Chris) Sanders, he passed away suddenly yesterday at Falmouth Rugby Club.
I last mentioned Sandy in a Blip on October 29th this year when we travelled together, with his wife Jo, up to Exmouth to watch our girls, Georgia and Sam, play rugby for Falmouth Women. We spent the day together, chatting, enjoying the day and each others company.
Last Sunday we spent the afternoon, in miserable weather, leaning on the pitch-side fencing again watching our daughters play, the best of times.
Both Joshua and I played with Sandy and his son Charlie, Mrs S and Sandy’s wife Jo are friends and as mentioned Sam plays with Georgia, we live in the same road and are friends.
Sandy and I had a lot in common, both ex Royal Navy, both supported and played for Falmouth Rugby, both played for and support Royal Navy Rugby, both supported Harlequins rugby.
Yesterday Sandy, who managed Falmouth 2’s played for around twenty minutes and following the match showered and changed, then whilst enjoying his first post match beer he went to the toilet and collapsed with a heart attack and could not be revived, devastating for those who were there and the first responders.
Sandy was a tremendous guy, a good friend a genuinely nice person.
He was my friend and although I will miss him I will remember the good times.
