Rushy Glen

Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren’t go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl’s feather!
From The Fairies by William Allingham, which gets considerably darker! I can remember having to learn this at primary school. We seemed to learn a lot of dark stuff. I can still  remember being traumatised by the Little Mermaid and The Tinder Box, both by Hans Christian Anderson.

A lot of gushiness today - I was awoken at 6.30am by rain so torrential I had to close the bedroom window. The morning though was lovely and I could hear the water coming down the mountain so abandoned what I should have been doing and went out to look at the waterfall. Plenty of gush. It was so lovely, and quite warm, that I continued up past the stone circle and then did an extended circuit.

This was followed by activity in the polytunnel, aided and abetted by the cat who jumped on every ancient strand of kale pulled up.

Himself was hunter gathering and has just returned from a brisk round of the circuit - absolutely soaked!
