Communing with the dead…

Betsey and I spent a couple hours wandering in two ancient cemeteries in Marshfield looking for ancestors.  I was able to find the stone of my 9th great grandmother, Faith Clarke Doty Phillips.  She married my 9th great grandfather when she was 16 in 1635.  The cemeteries where they were buried are known but the exact spot isn’t as the stones are gone so these two cenotaphs were erected.  The house is a recreation of the Stephen Hopkins house at Plymouth Plantation where Edward Doty lived when he came, as an indentured servant, on the Mayflower in 1620.  The death head caught our eye on another stone, quite unique. Heading back to Maine this morning.  The extra is the firefly lights in  Betsey and Trish’s garden last night.  Stunning!  Gift#339: friends, family and history.
