Sleeping beauty...
D took Lola to the vet this afternoon.
Although she's still as bouncy as ever (blip aside! :-)) and hasn't lost her appetite, she has lost weight over the last few weeks. We noticed it before we went on holiday a couple of weeks ago and when Agnes and Adrian arrived at the holiday cottage they both commented that she'd lost weight so we wanted to get her checked over.
Whenever she's at the vet she causes a great stir as the receptionists fall over themselves to pet her. It's hilarious. She sits there like the Queen of Sheba with them fawning all over her as she paws them one at a time. Then the door opens and the vet appears and she tries to pull David out the exit door! lol
The vet gave her a thorough physical examination, everything fine. David weighed her on arrival and she weighs 28.7 kilos. Now here's the rub, 28kgs is exactly what vets want adult female golden retrievers to weigh so no problem there as far as the vet was concerned. But Lola is skinny at that weight and her natural healthy weight is between 30 & 32kgs, so obviously we are concerned as to why she's lost the weight.
The vet also took bloods from her to check for heart worm and tick borne disease, kidney and liver function, red and white blood cell count and thyroid. David waited for the result. All clear, so the vet is head scratching. She has advised us to increase her daily raw food portion from 500g to 750g and add some fat (teaspoon of coconut oil) to one of her meals. Lola is very happy with that result! The bill is a shocker though, £450! I suppose I can't complain as that's the first large vet bill we've had in Lola's 6 1/2 years.
My day has been spent in the kitchen making goodies for Christmas as well as a roast dinner. I honestly don't know where the time has gone! Lola enjoyed her third helping of dinner along with some raw carrots and cabbage. I think the vet might become her favourite person! :D
