From Now On...

My Venetian glassware...

We are home! Almost unpacked and one lot of washing done. My sister and brother-in-law have gone back to Yeovil, and the sun hasn't shone here until this evening. We have been enjoying temperatures at least in the high 20's.

What an amazing city Venice is! Definitely one to return to. There is SO much more to see! I learnt lots too..always ready to do that. The tree on this piece of Venetian glass represents the piling which initially gave foundation to the architecture. Fascinating facts!

'The buildings of Venice are constructed on closely spaced wooden piles. Most of these piles are still intact after centuries of submersion. The foundations rest on the piles, and buildings of brick or stone sit above these footings. The piles penetrate a softer layer of sand and mud until they reach a much harder layer of compressed clay.
Submerged by water, in oxygen-poor conditions, wood does not decay as rapidly as on the surface.
Most of these piles were made from trunks of alder trees, a wood noted for its water resistance.'

I also have a very smart gondolier type boater and a theatrical mask ...Mmm

LOTS of pictures taken and this time I will share some.
