Rocinha Favela
Arrived in Rio early this morning after an overnight flight from Heathrow. Our original departure time was changed but we kept the hotel reservation so we could access the room when we arrived.
Later we visited Rocinha, the largest favela in Brazil. Although the 2010 census has the population at under 70,000 our tour guide, who lives there, told us it is home to almost 250,000 people. Astonishing when you realise the area is around 5 square kilometres, including the surrounding hillside.
It has rained on and off for most of the day but hopefully tomorrow will be a bit drier and clearer.
