2023 Friday — Walking it Off

Two weeks ago our kitchen faucet started leaking like a waterfall. The plumber came then to explain that there was a leak in the hose. He explained that he could drive to SLO to purchase a faucet, then come back to install it. The estimated cost was in the range of $725.00. Egads! The alternative was for us to shop for the faucet and have the plumber return after we made the purchase. So that was the option we chose. While we were in SoCal this past week, we purchased the faucet at Home Depot.

Yesterday, Thursday, a plumber from Wallace Plumbing arrived to install the new faucet but he was baffled by the shutoff valve under our kitchen sink. He’s a new plumber. So he phoned his supervisor and they decided to reschedule the faucet install for today when the experienced plumber could do the job. So the appointment was scheduled for sometime between 2:00 & 4:00 today. So all day felt like hurry-up and wait.

The plumber arrived shortly after 4:00; in less than 20 minutes the job was completed. He gave us the great news that the old faucet is guaranteed for life and that we need to contact the Moen Faucet people to get a new faucet sent to us. The plumber’s cost was $202.00 and the new faucet cost us under $200; so the entire job was completed for less than $400.00. We were pleased. Mr. Fun is not a plumber nor a handyman and neither one of us is agile enough to get down on the floor and inside the cupboard and under the sink; years ago we could do that but no longer.

To erase the frustration of the entire thing, after the plumber left, we packed the pups in the car and headed for the park to walk and walk and get some fresh air.

That was our Friday — two days after returning from SoCal. A faucet that is not quite 7 years old failed and has now been replaced. Such a nice relief after two-plus weeks of no kitchen sink (thankfully a sink is available on our patio, next to the laundry closet, and now is enclosed in a patio room).
