STOP - wait a minute Mr Postman

Round the back roads of Arley (north of Northwich) came a cross a gang of road workers cleaning up after a tar & chippings lay down from the week before.

You dont see the Lollipop men that often nowadays its all traffic light systems left in place for days but for this gang they were walking up the road with for want of a better decription a massive vacuum cleaner on a truck slowly moving down the road and sucking up all the loose chipping on the edge of the country lane.

The official names of the Lollipop men are Traffic controllers (TC's) or Traffic Management Operatives, they have to pass a course and be assessed to be put in charge of traffic control. As you can see not the best gear to be wearing when the sun is beating down from a clear blue sky but as he said its better than being on a fast dual carriageway or motorway jumping for your life 2 or 3 times a day because some idiot is on the phone or chatting to people in the car, and it could be worse it could be pissing down and blowing a gale. This lad was a bit wary at first thought I was someone from the council checking up on him and my explanation of Blipfoto probably wasn't the most convincing but we got there in the end.
The two lollipop men were in raido contact to control the cars although they were only @ 200 yards apart.
