Charroux

The medieval city of Charroux grew around an ancient fortification tower which later served as a prison. It is wonderful to see that houses are all occupied and adorned with floral displays in boxes, tubs, and hanging baskets. The Church of John the Baptist has a replica of the Lourdes grotto built in 1927. The bell tower gateway is reputed to have sounded the hour since 1549. (Not during the night I hope) There is a wonderful museum of clocks in the village and we hope to visit it again when we return to this area in July for the 40th International Festival of Music and Dance at Gannat.
