As promised. .. .. ..
Snowy mountains, blue sky, and the most amazing alpine meadows! It is impossible to capture this beautiful place in one photograph or even the 51 that we took. We reached the summit of the Col de Roselend (1968m, or almost 6,500ft) at lunchtime after stopping and revisiting Beaufort, the home of the alpine cheese of the same name. The meadows were beautiful beyond my descriptive vocabulary with azaleas, gentian, buttercups, violets, something that looked very much like strawberry?, cranesbill, daisies, scabious etc. etc.
We returned by crossing the dam at Roselend which looked quite scary from above, but it was simple compared with the white knuckle ride up, over, and down the Col de Pre (pronounced pray) and believe me we were praying that nothing would come in the opposite direction! Single track road with loads of hairpin bends and unguarded drops into the valleys below and very few passing places.
We were back on site in time for R to have a well earned snooze before our evening meal. He said he won't be driving over the Col de Pre again although the long stretch of dam was "a doddle".
Another day of memories to last a lifetime!
