Bugattis in abundance!
If there's one thing that's more exciting than free Magnums Birds of Prey - it's a vintage car rally! Not that I've ever been to one. So this morning as I was waiting for the bus to take me out into the wilds of Bonnyrigg to visit my sis-in-law and big bro, a vintage car went by!
I only got the back wheels as it whizzed by. Drat! Then another vintage car came along. Then another. And another! There was a rally somewhere, possible Holyrood Park.
As soon as I got my bro's I checked on the internet. Yes, Vintage Car Rally - London to Edinburgh, Ingliston, which is away out of town on the way to the airport. Too far to go.
Had a nice visit with the rellies, who were delighted with their Dobbies Voucher to spend on their new garden, and as I came back into town I carried on in, then got the bus down the Royal Mile to check out the Park on the off-chance.
And yes! There they were - dozens of vintage cars all lined up and sparkling. They were all Bugattis. I know that because they all had a badge on. I took loads of photos, but again found the limitations of the camera... I really needed a wide angle.
I got chatting to a chap with a big wide angle who must have taken hundreds of shots, and he said there were more cars up at St Giles. So I hot footed it up the Mile and there were a couple of dozen more, but many had left already, on the way to Pitlochry, apparently.
The owners were mostly German, Dutch and French from what I could hear. Many of them wore those old fashioned leather helmets that look like swimming hats. The women's (or at least, the co-driver's) job at the start up seemed to be to pump something on the dashboard, while the driver gazed in the engine. This was extremely fascinating to all the bikers and petrol heads who swarmed around. Lots of starting with the handle, too. And once they started, it was like a small plane taking off.
I chose this one because I liked the blue car, and because she was the only woman driver I saw. She didn't have a co-driver, and was causing quite a stir because she kept looking in the engine and then whizzing the starting handle. She really looked like she knew what she was doing.
And I don't think that bloke on the left's video camera is pointed at the car! LOL
