Whatsoever things are true.
This is the portal into our office. Build in 1937 for the BBC to house their Short-wave services broadcasting to the rest of the world.
Great care was taken in selecting the site when the first installation for the Empire Service was built in 1932. The hight, location and geology were deemed the best.
The site is clearly steeped in history considering its short lifetime. Stories abound from people who have worked here about their daily lives. This includes situations where local fences received the transmissions and turned them back into audible vibrations. Scary at the best of times but quite unnerving I would have thought in the dead of night.
This building now houses spares and workshops in the old transmitter halls. My desk looks out on the only remaining mast. There used to be many. Just their concrete mounts and stay block remain.
