Stay; or go?

Just before the steps up from the Rimutaka Huia Track to Huia Road, this PukekoWas crossing the path as I approached. It hurried off and down ro the bank of a small (currently) stream. The banks of the stream were breached repeatedly during the heavy rains earlier this year. 

The Pukeko called raucously, and was answered by another which was on the other side of the track. While equally raucous, there seemed more alarm in the sound. Perhaps it was a juvenile. Rather than distress it more, I left them to re-unite.

I dug a number of holes and planted some of the shrubs and small trees we are putting in.Just this week before I get a couple of weeks off.
