Herangi
The totara pou honours both an important tupuna (ancestor) of Ngati Maniapoto, who are the mana whenua for this area of Aotearoa/New Zealand. Herangi stands at one end of the bridge complex (two bridges) across the winding Awakino River to bypass an old one car wide tunnel on the main highway linking southern Waikato with northern Taranaki. There is another pou at the northern end of the other bridge
The wee sparrow was spotted outside the cafe where we stopped for lunch on our return journey today from New Plymouth
