Dredging the access canal to Gloucester Docks
Back at Gloucester this most northerly section of the Gloucester to Sharpness canal leads into the proper docks beyond the lifting bridge just visible in the background. The warehouses in the distance were on the dockside whilst the warehouses on the right of the picture allowed barges to moor to load and unload on the canal itself.
There was another large brick warehouse from the same era just to the right of the edge of this picture. Sadly it was burnt down about ten years ago, probably as a result of developers not wishing to rebuild a listed building. I blipped a view of it some years ago before and after the fire the fire and again a wider view a bit later a wider view a bit later.
Instead there is now a very similar looking but brand new building which is part of the development of the quayside as a retail centre.
Now the canal is being systematically dredged. I wonder what they might find down there.
