The road home
I'll start with many thanks for all the love and appreciation you showed for yesterday's blip + extras. You bumped me onto page 1 of the populars, a place I do not occupy so very often.
And so to today... Earlier we were out for our usual walk, down to the lake. As the sun set and the crescent moon rose we turned for home. Partway home we walk up this winding road to our village. The first houses of the village are visible on the horizon, under that tiny moon.
The low sun, low levels of light, snow, and clear air give us a wonderful display of subtle colour changes as the day proceeds, if like today it isn't cloudy.
The picture is taken at 13:51 and for us the sun has set. (Official sunset is 14:11 but there's a hill and forest in the way.) The sun is (theoretically) up 4 hours and 53 minutes.
The shortest day is almost upon us, on the 22 December our day here is 4hours 51 minutes long.
I like the silhouettes of the willow trees on the left of the photo. In fact I love it so much I've added an extra of just that corner of the photo! The other extra shows churned up snow. The deer have pawed away the snow to get at the vegetation beneath. They have been working very hard on this stretch of field.
