Scenes at Fareshare today
Incredibly busy morning - somehow more van difficulties, more unscheduled donations, less staff (covid) - but we got through it. Our lovely new asylum seeker volunteers mean more hands - and hands are mainly what is needed - sorting and shifting tonnes and tonnes of food - the right selection for the right group. A meat company were selling turkey crowns to their customers on the understanding that they also paid for the legs - which were then donated to Fareshare. Which was nice except it brought refrigeration challenges, use by date complications, and also directing them only to groups/ community cafes who had the means of cooking them. A lot of people in hotels only have a kettle. In B and B some have use of a microwave. It’s an incredible feat of logistics altogether and I really admire the paid staff and the other volunteers.
On the right is D - one of the volunteer van drivers. Last year he did a fundraising stunt for Fareshare, standing on a flying plane dressed as a pea pod! Today he was moved by the Christmas spirit to juggle potatoes:)
