Some of the girls

There are half of the new chickens in this shot, the other four were wandering elsewhere. They don't seem to stay in a group like the previous ones did. They also will not eat vegetable peeling or toast, both of which were devoured on site by our other ones. They do however lay eggs, we have already had five today.
You might be able to see the young lady in the background that appears to have blue feathers. She is being picked on by some of the others (the phrase Pecking Order refers to a real and very vicious behaviour) and has lost a lot of feathers from her back. I have used an antiseptic spray that is purple. It claims that the colouring helps to stop the  others attacking her as well has fighting infection. Her feathers are slowly coming back but she is still the victim of bullying. I am looking at chicken jackets (seriously not joking) that will give her more protection.
Once the weather gets better (cold and wet and windy again today) I will be able to spend more time down there and get to know them  better
