Frisian lion popularly called the reclining woman

The statue of The Stones or Reclining Woman is located at the foot of the Westerzeedijk. Made from masonry basalt stones that fit into the framework of Harlingen, and built in 1965 by the Zwolle artist Ybe van der Wielen (1913 – 1999). The sculpture was originally part of the old retaining wall (1965), which was built as part of the delta works to protect Harlingen against the water. After the current retaining wall was completed in 2010, the statue was placed on a pedestal and moved to its current location.
