Our turn...

After yesterday's feast at Ruth and Mikael's it was our turn to be host for Lasse and Annika. It's a fair while since we last met up so we had plenty to talk about.
When they arrived we tried to  go for a walk but it was really windy and once we left the village the wind-chill drove us home again. We played around with the dog and chatted outside in our somewhat sheltered garden before getting inside and sitting around the woodburner to warm up, imbibing mulled wine or coffee as we ate mince pies!
Lasse and I later played around with a flour mill he was passing on to me. He assures me bread baked with newly ground flour is far superior to that baked with ordinary flour - I shall experiment and report back.
For dinner we started with pickled herrings and salad, provided by our guests and then on to some of our minced venison (red deer) in a rather luxurious stew, served with Jan's sauteed carrots, mashed potato, and Brussels sprouts. We finally cut into Jan's Christmas cake and it was very moist and tasty - a real success.
