Using up the dates…
… Using up everything possible! (And starting the diet in the New Year).
I’m back blipping this one. Yesterday was very chilled. I permitted myself a reading day. I might even continue it into today. I can’t recall the last time I sat by the fire with a book.
I have a book to start that I can’t wait to get into. But, first I’m finishing a true crime book from the 1960s. (About a situation that affected me because I grew up in the area where it took place, around the A34. The ‘A34 Murders’ will be familiar to anyone of my generation, sadly). The book was ‘borrowed’ from me, before I had finished it, decades ago, and was returned to me over Christmas! It is, obviously, a hard-hitting read, but also a veritable nostalgia hit, telling of ‘old’ policing, and days when the shops of different local towns had different half-day closing days… Of walking home in the rain at school lunch time, with a toy umbrella.. Setting off, still soaked, to go back… Of communities pulling together… Of how ‘calling in Scotland Yard’ worked in the 1960s…
The next book will be more cheerful.
But I know that anyone who remembers the above will be affected by it, even now.
