Catch a Ride

Every evening about 8:00 the FedEx and/or the UPS planes fly over on their way to somewhere. Tonight I just happened to be standing outside when I heard one approaching; I knew it was from Ontario International Airport as I held my camera to capture the sight, I realized that above the FedEx plane was a plane on its way into Los Angeles International Airport. Rarely do we see two planes going in opposite directions pass so closely. I'm sure they were not close at all, but it looked like it from here on the ground.

By car, we are approximately 15+ minutes from the Ontario Airport and roughly 1 hour from Los Angeles (depending on the traffic). We always prefer to use Ontario rather than Los Angeles. Getting to Los Angeles is just a lot more driving on usually crowded freeways.

Today I did more paper work sorting. Will it ever end? I filled the shredder tub full and had to empty it. Slowly, I am going to eliminate some of the excess paper in this house.

So that's about it for today. Tomorrow I meet with several colleagues to read the essays written today by the students in the Summer Advantage Program (SAP). I was invited to teach some of the 8-day classes, but there was not enough students, so I was glad to excuse myself from the experience. The program allows students who have just graduated from high school, but have not passed their entrance exam for Freshman English to quality for Freshman Composition, to sit in an hour-an-a-half class for 7-days of review and then on the 8th day to write an exit essay. If they write well, they are admitted into Freshman Composition. If they do not write well, they are placed into one of the basic writing classes. The goal of the program is to save the student from having to spend a semester or more in remedial classes.

So tomorrow ought to be interesting.

Good Night from Southern California.
