Sub-tropicollage
We went back to Mary Cairncross Reserve this morning, a 55 hectare patch of preserved sub-tropical rainforest. Thankfully, today was fine and sunny with no thunderstorms.
The species diversity of this small pocket of rain forest is amazing: 391 plant species, 141 bird species, 68 mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and unspecified numbers of invertebrates and fungi.
My last Blip for 2023 is a collage of photos taken in the Reserve this morning. Clockwise from top left:
. pronounced buttress roots, possibly Booyong (Argyrodendron)
. young leaves on Bolly Gum (Neolitsea dealbata)
. loopy liana vine
. strangler fig
. and in the centre, Red-legged Pademelon, one of the smaller members of the kangaroo/wallaby family.
And best wishes for the New Year to all in Blipland.
