After my guests left I wandered down to the local cinema where unfortunately they were having technical issues with the film I had gone to see, so later in the day I walked the mile and a half to the other cinema to see if they were faring better, they were.
I wanted to see One Life starring Anthony Hopkins, about the life of Nicholas Winton which I enjoyed, despite weeping through almost all of it.
The film portrays Winton as grieving over any child he was unable to save, and I have no reason to doubt that he did. This article takes an interesting view of the subject.
I just despair that despite all the horrors of the two world wars, despite quite so many players having “nuclear deterrents”, we are still using artillery on children. We proudly portray ourselves as the species with all the greatest achievements so why are we incapable of learning from our own mistakes?
Thanks for all your comments on yesterday's abomination, I've no doubt the friend who created it agrees with all of us
